Ruth Lawrence, a celebrated filmmaker, calls St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, her home. Her extensive filmography is comprised of a diverse range of critically acclaimed feature films, boasting an impressive array of notable works. One such notable achievement is the award-winning feature film Little Orphans, which received the prestigious Best Canadian Feature award at the Whistler Film Festival in the year 2020. Additionally, her 2018 film, Hopeless Romantic, has garnered significant attention, while her comedy feature, Party Pirate, created a stir by selling out its opening gala overnight at the St. John's International Women's Film Festival in October of 2023.
Ruth's documentary filmmaking endeavors, "A Lot of Love in the Room" (2021) and "Circus by Komatik" (2019),have been prominently featured on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's streaming platform, CBC Gem, thereby demonstrating her remarkable versatility as a filmmaker.
With an extensive and impressive background in short films and webisodes, Ruth has successfully directed, written, and/or produced over 70 projects, a testament to her remarkable range and adaptability in the world of filmmaking.
Ruth is currently engaged in the production of two feature films, one of which is a collaborative effort with the acclaimed filmmaker Sherry White, and another with the talented Emily Bridger. Her impressive array of honors and accolades is a testament to her exceptional skills and dedication to her craft, and includes the prestigious Joan Orenstein Best Actress Award, the RBC Michelle Jackson Award for Emerging Filmmaker, the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council's esteemed Artist of the Year designation, the Queen's Jubilee Medal, the YWCA Woman of Distinction award, a WIFT-AT WAVE Award, the national Leslie Yeo Award for Volunteerism, and the inaugural Ross Leslie Award, which recognizes her significant contributions to the film and theatre industries.
