Ruth Lawrence is a multi-talented individual who has made a name for herself in the film and theatre industry as a director, writer, and actor. Her extensive body of work includes a diverse range of projects, from narrative features to documentaries, short films, and music videos.
In 2020, Ruth's first narrative feature film, Little Orphans, premiered in Galas across Canada and received widespread acclaim, winning the Borsos Competition for Best Canadian Feature at the prestigious Whistler Film Festival.
Prior to this, Ruth had already established herself as a talented filmmaker with her first CBC-TV feature documentary, Circus by Komatik, which was released in 2019 and showcased her skill in crafting engaging and thought-provoking documentaries.
Ruth's early work includes her involvement as one of the writer-directors on the 2018 portmanteau feature, Hopeless Romantic, as well as her direction of the Ennis Sisters music video, The Ennis Sisters: Your Light, which was released in 2018 to mark the 100th Anniversary of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
In addition to her work in film, Ruth has also directed a number of short films, including Talus and Scree, which was released in 2013, and Sweet Pickle, which premiered in 2009.
Ruth has also co-produced the feature film Hunting Pignut, which won two best feature awards, with Pope Productions in 2016. Furthermore, she is the director of the 5-episode web series, Buy the Boards, which was created by Luke Lawrence and Matt Wright and released in 2014.
