Upon his return to the United States, Ryan sought to further hone his craft by enrolling in the prestigious William Esper Studio. It was here that he dedicated himself to the study of the Meisner technique, a rigorous approach to acting that emphasizes the importance of living truthfully in the moment. Ryan's time at the William Esper Studio was marked by intense physical and emotional preparation, as he worked to develop a deep sense of vulnerability and authenticity in his performances.
In addition to his Meisner training, Ryan also had the opportunity to explore the principles of Chekhov's approach to acting at the Michael Chekhov Acting Studio. This unique and holistic approach emphasizes the importance of the actor's body and imagination in the creative process, and Ryan found it to be a valuable complement to his Meisner training. Through his work at the Michael Chekhov Acting Studio, Ryan developed a greater sense of freedom and spontaneity in his performances, and learned to access a wide range of emotions and physical sensations with greater ease.
Finally, Ryan sought to refine his comedic skills through long-form improv classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade. This challenging and fast-paced environment allowed him to develop his ability to think on his feet, respond spontaneously to unexpected situations, and create a wide range of characters and scenarios. Ryan's time at the Upright Citizens Brigade was marked by a sense of playfulness and experimentation, as he worked to develop a more flexible and adaptable approach to comedy.
