Ryunosuke Kamiki was born in Fujimi, Japan. At a young age, he was diagnosed with a rare disease and was fortunate enough to be one of the 1% who survived. To celebrate his miraculous recovery, his mother registered him as a child actor in an agency to document his growth.
Kamiki's acting career began when he was just 2 years old, appearing in a TV commercial. He quickly became one of the most popular child actors of his generation, landing roles in numerous TV dramas and films.
In 1999, he made his TV drama debut in "Good News," playing the stepson of the main character. He also appeared in "Happy Mania" and "Quiz" in the same year. As he grew older, he began to take on more mature roles, including "Tantei Kazoku" and "Wedding Planner."
In 2004, Kamiki starred in the film "Insutoru," followed by "Ototsan no backdrop" and "Ren'ai-shousetsu." He also appeared in "Survive Style 5+" and "Yokai daisenso" (The Great Yokai War),for which he won the Newcomer of the Year award at the 29th Japan Academy Prize.
In 2005, Kamiki became the sole leading actor of a movie for the first time in "Yokai daisenso." The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival, but he missed the red carpet due to jet lag and exhaustion.
Kamiki's breakthrough year was 2007, during which he starred in the TV drama "Tantei Gakuen Q" and the film "Little DJ: Chiisana koi no monogatari." He also appeared in "Dondo Hare" and "Toku no sora ni kieta."
In 2008, Kamiki played the mentally-disabled son of the main character in the TV drama "Kaze no gaaden." He developed a close bond with his co-star, Kiichi Nakai, during filming.
Kamiki's most famous role to date is probably his portrayal of Minamoto no Yoshitsune in the NHK Taiga drama "Taira no Kiyomori." He has also appeared in numerous other TV dramas and films, including "Keizoku 2: SPEC: Juichi Ninomae," "Kirishima, bukatsu yamerutteyo" (The Kirishima Thing),and "Bakuman."
Apart from his acting career, Kamiki is also a talented voice actor. He has voiced characters in several Studio Ghibli films, including "Spirited Away" and "Howl's Moving Castle." He has also worked with other famous animation directors, such as Hiromasa Yonebayashi and Mamoru Hosoda.
Kamiki's most notable voice acting role to date is probably his portrayal of Taki Tachibana in Makoto Shinkai's critically acclaimed animated film "Your Name." He won the Best Actor award at the 11th Seiyu Awards for his performance.
In his free time, Kamiki enjoys photography and has even won an award for his work. He is also a big fan of railway and manga.
