Sharon was born in Los Angeles, California, but spent her childhood in Sioux City, Iowa, where she was raised by a widowed school administrator and became enamored with performing from a young age. She began attending local community playhouses and eventually landed her first role as a teenager. Sharon's passion for the stage only grew stronger as she attended prestigious programs at the University of Denver and Northwestern University's Cherub Program.
She went on to major in Speech and Theatre at Macalester College, but later transferred to the University of Iowa, where she graduated with honors. Sharon's first television gig came when she was hired to co-host "The Morning Show" at the CBS affiliate in Chattanooga, Tennessee, but she soon realized that scripted material was more her forte.
Sharon's professional acting career began at the Asolo State Theatre in Sarasota, Florida, where she was part of a repertory company that performed 3-4 plays at a time, rehearsing and performing six days a week for ten months a year. This experience allowed her to take on a wide range of roles and learn from some of the best in the business.
After three years, Sharon decided to try her luck in New York City, where she quickly landed commercials and became a familiar face advertising products like Maxwell House coffee and Duncan Hines cake mix. The income from these commercials allowed her to take on roles in regional theaters and off-Broadway productions.
Sharon's career continued to flourish, with roles in TV series and plays in local professional venues in Los Angeles. She appeared in several TV pilots, including the sitcom "Angie," which showcased her comedic skills, and guest-starred in shows like "Trauma Center" and "Snoops." Despite the ups and downs, Sharon remained committed to her craft, continuing to take on new roles and explore different mediums.
In 1996, Sharon re-joined the Asolo Repertory Company, where she performed in a variety of productions until her retirement in 2010. She and her husband, actor and writer Stephen Johnson, now make their home in Sarasota, Florida, where she remains active in the theater community.
