Shimmy Marcus is a renowned filmmaker, celebrated for his versatility and innovative approach across various formats and genres. His illustrious career spans multiple decades, marked by numerous accolades and achievements. In 1999, Marcus's feature script 'Headrush' won the prestigious Miramax Script Writing Award, a testament to his exceptional writing skills. The film itself received widespread critical acclaim, garnering a multitude of international awards, including Best Feature at festivals in Michigan, New York, and the Braunschweig Film Festival in Germany.
Marcus's critically acclaimed feature documentary 'Aidan Walsh - Master of the Universe' made history as the first Irish documentary to receive theatrical and video distribution, a remarkable feat. His short films have also garnered significant recognition, with notable mentions for his contribution to the feature documentary 'Imagining Ulysses'. Moreover, Marcus has created numerous innovative music promos for prominent bands, including Fun Lovin' Criminals, Gavin Friday, Skin (Skunk Anansie),Republic of Loose, BP Fallon, and Jack White of the White Stripes.
Marcus's sophomore feature 'Soulboy' (starring Felicity Jones and Martin Compston) is set against the captivating backdrop of the Northern Soul movement in 1970s Britain, and won the 'Enfant Terrible' section of the Gijon International Film Festival. In 2010, he joined The Factory as a guest Director, continuing to produce and direct films, including the award-winning short films 'Rhinos' and 'Hannah Cohen's Holy Communion', as well as documentaries on Parkinson's and Holocaust Survivors living in Ireland.
Presently, Marcus serves as the Director of Bow Street Academy - The National Screen Acting School of Ireland, which he co-founded in 2014 with Casting Director Maureen Hughes and Acting Coach Gerry Grennell. He is also a co-founder of the Screen Directors Guild of Ireland.
