Shiphrah Meditz has been actively involved in the film industry since her high school graduation in 2009. During this period, she wrote spec scripts for the Nigerian Television Authority and created a musical adaptation of Oscar Wilde's novel, "The Picture of Dorian Grey". Her interest in directing began in August 2011 with the short films "Leah's Choice" and "Where Snakes Roam", which she produced and directed in Auckland, New Zealand, and Austin, Texas.
Shiphrah also directed the music video "Musicophilia", which was used to raise awareness about the 2011 wildfire devastation in Bastrop, Texas. In 2012, she started working on her debut feature film, "The Dying Eye", in Edinburgh, Scotland. The film concluded production in February 2013 and post-production in December 2013.
The production team, led by Shiphrah, showcased "The Dying Eye" at the 66th Annual Festival de Cannes. Since then, the film has been nominated for the awards "Best Horror/Thriller" and "Best Director" and screened at the Southampton International Film Festival. In addition to film-making, Shiphrah was invited to judge the Girls Impact the World Film Festival at Harvard University in 2014.
She has also served as a first-round judge for the Screenwriting Competition at the Austin Film Festival and assisted in several other film festivals in New Zealand and Texas. Prior to her film experience, Shiphrah was an internationally competitive pianist until 2009, with performances at prestigious venues such as the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington D.C.
She has also won several awards at the Bradshaw & Buono Piano Competition at Carnegie Hall, New York. Shiphrah graduated with a 3.9/4.0 GPA from the University of Auckland, holding double degrees in English Literature and Social Anthropology. She has studied in an Honors Exchange on a scholarship, the Abroad Universitas 21 Award 2012, at the University of Edinburgh from 2012-2013.
