Silvia Fontana was born on December 3, 1976, and is a former American figure skater who represented Italy in international competitions.
Her figure skating career began in the 1993-94 season, during which she won five national titles in Italy. She achieved notable rankings at the European Championships and World Championships, finishing as high as 7th and 8th, respectively.
Fontana's most notable achievement was her 10th-place finish at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. After leaving competitive skating in 2002, she made a comeback in the 2005-06 season, aiming to represent Italy at the Olympics in her home country.
She finished second at the Italian Nationals in the 2005-06 season, qualifying for Italy's Olympic team. However, she placed 22nd in her final competitive event.
Following the Olympics, Fontana transitioned to performing in ice shows and skating competitions around the world, including a skating competition on Italian TV.
In her personal life, Fontana married American pair skater John Zimmerman on August 28, 2003. The couple has three children: Sofia, born on April 2, 2012, Eva, born on June 2, 2013, and Jack, born in August 2016.
Fontana and Zimmerman coach figure skaters together and have served as ambassadors for Right to Play, a humanitarian organization. They also founded Karisma, a line of sportswear, in 2009.
