Sonejuhi's narrative short film, Love Comes Later, made its highly anticipated debut at the prestigious 2015 Cannes Film Festival, marking a significant milestone in her burgeoning career as a filmmaker. This remarkable achievement was swiftly followed by her completion of Cannes's renowned development program Next Step in Paris, where she honed her skills by working on her feature script.
Throughout her journey, Sonejuhi has been the recipient of several esteemed awards and grants, including the Tribeca All Access development grant and the Shoot New Director's Showcase in New York. Moreover, she has had the privilege of participating in the prestigious Tribeca Film Institute's Through Her Lens program, where she was mentored by renowned filmmakers such as Dee Rees, Catherine Hardwicke, and Rashida Jones, among others.
Sonejuhi's impressive resume also includes the Jerome Foundation development grant and Tribeca's IWC award for her feature film, Stray Dolls, which boasts an all-star cast featuring Cynthia Nixon, Olivia Dejonge, Rob Aramayo, and Geetanjali Thapa. Notably, Stray Dolls was listed in Filmmaker Magazine's most anticipated films of 2019, a testament to Sonejuhi's growing reputation as a talented and innovative filmmaker.
Prior to transitioning to directing, Sonejuhi spent years honing her craft as a professional film editor in New York. Her impressive editing credits include the award-winning documentaries These Birds Walk (2013) and Homegoings (2013),as well as several narrative short films and award-winning commercial campaigns.
