Biography

Stefan Valdobrev is a multifaceted Bulgarian artist, who has made a significant impact in the realms of acting, composing, authoring, performing, film directing, and music.

Born on May 20, 1970, in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, Valdobrev graduated from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Art in Sofia, Bulgaria.

In the early 1990s, he gained immense popularity in the Bulgarian music scene with his songs, earning numerous accolades, including two consecutive awards for "Good Contractor" in MM Television.

However, his primary focus has always been his acting career, during which he has appeared in a wide range of performances, including those staged by prominent Bulgarian filmmakers at the National Theater, Bulgarian Army's Theater, State Youth Theater, Theater "La Strada", Satirical Theater, and Plovdiv Drama Theatre.

Valdobrev has also demonstrated a keen interest in theater and film music, which has led to the composition of scores for over 70 performances and 20 feature films and documentaries.

His film debut, the soundtrack for the movie "Boarding for Dogs" (2000),earned him his first "Golden Rose" award, and he went on to compose the music for the film "The World Is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner" (2008),which received numerous international awards and was shortlisted for the "Best Foreign Language Film" category at the American Academy Film "Oscar".

In the early 2000s, Valdobrev began to shift his focus away from the theater and music scene, although he continued to appear in major productions such as "Much Ado About Nothing", "The Brothers Karamazov", "Master and Margarita", "Comedy servants", "Eurydice", "Suburb", and "Hamlet machine".

He made his cinematic debut in 2004 with the film "Burning", directed by Stanimir Trifonov, for which he received his second "Golden Rose" award, this time for Best Actor.

In 2006, Valdobrev moved to Prague, where he majored in film directing at the Czech Film Academy FAMU. After graduating, he worked on several short project videos and television spectacles.

His directorial debut, the documentary "Manchester United from Svishtov" (2010),received widespread critical acclaim and was screened at numerous prestigious film festivals, including those in Amsterdam, Hot Docs Toronto, Sarajevo Film Festival, Zagreb Dox Festival, Warsaw, and the Market of the Cannes Film Festival.

In the 2010s, Valdobrev resumed his acting career, engaging in a trilogy of plays written by Jana Borisova and directed by Galin Stoev: "Little piece of nursery", "Pleasantly Scary", and "People of Oz". These performances had a significant impact on the Bulgarian theatrical scene.

In 2012, Valdobrev made a comeback to the music scene after a ten-year absence, reuniting his group and resuming his concert career. He also began work on a new studio album.
