Stephen Oremus, a renowned American musician, has made a significant impact in the world of Broadway theatre as a musical director and orchestrator. His extensive credits include arranging and orchestrating the music for Avenue Q, as well as serving as the musical director and arranger for the hit musical Wicked.
Oremus has also worked on numerous other productions, such as All Shook Up, where he was responsible for the arrangements and orchestrations, and 9 to 5, where he served as the musical director. His collaborations with Larry Hochman on the orchestrations for The Book of Mormon earned him a Tony Award in 2011 for Best Orchestrations.
In addition to his work on The Book of Mormon, Oremus also won the Tony Award for Best Orchestrations for Kinky Boots. He has also served as the orchestra conductor and music director for Frozen 2, and has worked on various other projects, including Rufus Wainwright's 2006 Judy Garland tribute concert, which was released as the album Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall and the DVD Rufus! Born and raised in Livingston, New Jersey, Oremus attended Livingston High School and later graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1992, with a major in film scoring. He has also worked as the arranger and producer of the bare bones sophisticated version of "New York, New York" sung by Carey Mulligan in the feature film Shame.
