Her mother, Darcy LaPier, and father, Ron Rice, played a significant role in shaping her early years. Ron Rice, the owner of The Hawaiian Tropics suntan products company and beauty pageants, was a prominent figure in Sterling's life. In fact, her mother, Darcy LaPier, later married the renowned actor, Jean-Claude Van Damme, making him Sterling's step-father. Interestingly, Sterling's family life underwent another significant change when her mother married Brian Snodgrass, becoming her current step-father.
Sterling's journey in the entertainment industry began at a tender age, and her breakthrough performance came when she was just 13 years old, going on 14, in the television/stage production, "The Troy Cory Evening Show" (1974-2008),also known as The Troy Cory Show. This marked the beginning of her professional singing career, which took her to new heights, including a remarkable performance in the People's Republic of China in 2004. Sterling's father, Ron Rice, accompanied his group of Hawaiian Tropic girls, including Sterling, on a performing tour throughout China, which included stops in Shanghai and surrounding cities.
