Van Wilder, a charismatic student at Coolidge College, has been living the high life for seven years, hosting parties, raising funds, and rallying the student body. He's got a loyal entourage, including his right-hand man Hutch and personal assistant Taj. However, his father, Wilder Sr., discovers that Van is still in school and cuts off his financial support. With his college life in jeopardy, Van must find a way to pay his own way. Meanwhile, star reporter Gwen Pearson is assigned to write a series of articles about Van, but her arrogant boyfriend, Richard, tries to sabotage her efforts. As Gwen spends more time with Van, she begins to question her own future and Van starts to consider his own.
