Tim Matheson is an American actor, director, and producer, perhaps best known for his portrayal of Eric "Otter" Stratton in the 1978 comedy National Lampoon's Animal House. He has had a variety of other well-known roles, including Vice President John Hoynes on the television series The West Wing, for which he received two Primetime Emmy award nominations.
Matheson has also starred in several television series, including Hart of Dixie, where he played the role of Dr. Brick Breeland from 2011 to 2015. He has directed episodes of various shows, including The Last Ship, Burn Notice, and Criminal Minds.
Matheson began his career at the age of 13, appearing in the CBS nostalgia comedy series Window on Main Street in the 1961-1962 television season. He provided the voice of the lead character in the cartoon program Jonny Quest in 1964 and voiced "Jace" in the original animated series Space Ghost in 1966.
Matheson has also appeared in several films, including Yours, Mine and Ours, Magnum Force, and 1941. He co-starred with John Belushi in National Lampoon's Animal House and appeared alongside him again in Steven Spielberg's 1941.
In the 1980s, Matheson starred in several films, including To Be or Not to Be, Up the Creek, and Fletch. He also starred in the CBS series Tucker's Witch and appeared in the comedy A Very Brady Sequel.
Matheson has been married to Megan Murphy Matheson and has three wonderful children with her.
