Tom Everett Scott's early life was marked by his birth and upbringing in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, where he was the third of four children to Cynthia Ann Pierce, an insurance saleswoman, and William Joseph Scott, a civil engineer. Growing up, Tom spent his childhood in a charming abode situated in the woods, with a picturesque pond nearby, where he would often indulge in activities such as canoeing and camping.
Tom's early interest in the performing arts began to manifest itself during his high school years, as he took on various roles in school plays. However, upon enrolling in communications at Syracuse University in 1988, he initially pursued a major in communications. It wasn't until his first year at the university that Tom stumbled upon the theater department, witnessing students engaging in lively performances and exclaiming, "This is my home. This is where I should be!"
In a moment of epiphany, Tom switched his major to drama, and upon graduating, he made the bold decision to relocate to New York City. Initially, he supplemented his income by waiting tables, but his passion for the performing arts eventually led him to co-found a theater company with his college friends, which they aptly named "aTheaterco".
