Biography

Kabuki actor and the most renowned and revered onnagata, specializing in the portrayal of female roles, currently captivating audiences with his remarkable performances on stage. His impressive career has also extended to the silver screen, with a notable few film appearances to his credit.

Born in the year 1950, Shin'ichi Morita's life took a significant turn when he was adopted by the illustrious Morita Kan'ya XIV. At the tender age of seven, he made his debut on stage under the pseudonym Bandō Kinoji, marking the beginning of his illustrious journey in the world of Kabuki.

A significant milestone in his life was the shūmei, or naming ceremony, which took place in 1964. On this occasion, he was bestowed the esteemed name Bandō Tamasaburō, a distinction previously held by his adoptive father, Morita Kan'ya XIV, who was the fourth to bear this name.

In addition to his impressive stage presence, Tamasaburō has also ventured into the realm of filmmaking. In 1993, he directed the poignant film Yearning, which garnered international recognition and was officially selected for the 43rd Berlin International Film Festival.
