Tex Fletcher, born Geremino Bisceglia, was the fifth of eight children to Italian immigrant parents, Michael and Josephine, in Harrison, New York.
He left home at the tender age of 15 to join a circus, traveling across the United States and Canada, and eventually settling in South Dakota.
There, he learned the ways of horses and cattle, becoming a true cowboy, before returning to New York in the early 1930s to take a job as a singing cowboy on radio station WFAS in White Plains.
He later landed a role as the Cowboy Answer Man on WWOR radio in New Jersey, capitalizing on the popularity of the "singing cowboy" craze.
His talent was soon discovered by Hollywood scouts, and he was signed by Grand National Pictures, a "B" studio, to star in a series of low-budget westerns.
However, the studio went bankrupt before the release of his first film, Six-Gun Rhythm (1939),leaving only unreleased prints behind.
Undeterred, Tex embarked on a one-man promotional tour across the Northeast United States, personally booking and traveling to each movie theater, opening the show with songs, screening the film, and signing autographs for fans.
After this, he lost his enthusiasm for Hollywood and turned down subsequent offers from other production companies to continue the series.
During World War II, Tex served in the military, rising to the rank of sergeant.
Following the war, he married and had five children: Robert, Jayne, Kathy, George, and Michael.
He returned to radio, nightclubs, and television, releasing his final album in 1964, having recorded for various labels throughout his career, including London, Decca, Dakota, and others.
