Thomas's journey in the film industry began after graduating from the City University of New York, where he assisted and edited various independent features and documentaries in New York before moving to Los Angeles to pursue his passion for writing, producing, and directing.
One of his early assignments took him to Spain, where he researched and wrote a screenplay based on the classic novel "Sangre y Arena" by Blasco Ibanez, titled "Blood and Sand". The film starred Sharon Stone and Mark Rydell.
Thomas's first film as a producer was "Purple Haze", which won the Grand Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and was released by Columbia/Triumph. The film was directed by David Burton Morris.
His second film as a producer, "Nightsongs", was a participant at Robert Redford's Sundance Institute Lab and aired on PBS. The film was directed by Marva Nabili.
A meeting with Whoopi Goldberg led to his first directing job, the opening to her HBO Special "Fontaine Why Am I Straight", which was nominated for a Cable Ace award.
Thomas then directed his first film, "The Comforts Of Home", based on a short story by Flannery O'Connor.
This was followed by his directing job on "Don't Call Me Frankie", which premiered as an official selection and runner up in the Semaine de la Critique section of the Cannes Film Festival, where it played to enthusiastic audiences from around the world before a limited release in Europe.
Since then, Thomas has been a visual consultant and consulting producer on various films, including "Gills" and "Perfume Garden", shot in Italy and India. He has also been working as a screenwriter for others, penning scripts for films such as "The Mind", "Maya", "The Return of the Thief of Bagdad", "Kashmir", "Mysterium", "Cry Needle Rock", and "Fox In The City".
Through his company, Stray Dog Film, Thomas is currently developing projects he has written.
