Timothy Allen Dick was born on June 13, 1953, in Denver, Colorado, to Martha Katherine (Fox) and Gerald M. Dick. His father, a real estate salesman, tragically lost his life in a collision with a drunk driver while driving his family home from a University of Colorado football game, when Tim was just eleven years old. This devastating event had a profound impact on Tim's life, and he was left to navigate the challenges of growing up without his father. Two years after his father's passing, his mother, a dedicated community service worker, remarried her high school sweetheart, an Episcopalian deacon, and Tim was raised alongside his many siblings and step-siblings.
As a young boy, Tim's family relocated to Birmingham, Michigan, where he spent his formative years. In high school, he developed a strong interest in shop class, which would later become a significant influence on his career. After graduating from high school, Tim attended Western Michigan University, where he earned a degree in Television Production in 1975. However, his life took a dramatic turn in 1978 when he was arrested on drug charges and spent two years in jail. Upon his release, Tim emerged with a newfound perspective on life and, on a dare from a friend, began his comedy career at the Comedy Castle in Detroit.
Tim's early success in stand-up comedy led to several cable specials, including Comedy's Dirtiest Dozen in 1988 and Tim Allen: Men Are Pigs in 1990. In 1991, he landed the starring role in his own hit television series, Home Improvement, which aired on ABC for eight seasons. During this time, Tim also appeared in a string of blockbuster movies, including The Santa Clause in 1994, Toy Story in 1995, Toy Story 2 in 1999, and Galaxy Quest in 1999.
In addition to his entertainment career, Tim has also pursued other passions. In August 1996, he developed and launched his own signature line of power tools, manufactured by Ryobi. He is also the owner of a racing team, Tim Allen/Saleen RRRRacing. In May 1999, Tim ended his successful run on Home Improvement, and in 2001, he appeared in films such as Big Trouble and Joe Somebody. Throughout his career, Tim has demonstrated his versatility as a comedian, actor, and entrepreneur, leaving a lasting impact on the entertainment industry.
