Urban Bergsten, a native of Linköping, Sweden, was destined for the spotlight from a young age. His passion for performance arts led him to excel as both a musician and actor, simultaneously producing music and movie reviews for local newspapers and TV channels. This multifaceted talent laid the groundwork for his future endeavors.
As he delved deeper into his craft, Bergsten pursued studies in acting and writing for stage and screen, ultimately co-founding the theatre company Teater Pseudo in 1994 alongside two fellow graduates. The company's emphasis on Swedish Drama led to the production of numerous plays, often performed in unconventional settings around Stockholm, such as apartments, bars, theaters, and even outdoor spaces where the actors were once joined by a car on stage. Teater Pseudo's innovative productions took the company on a tour throughout Sweden.
Bergsten's impressive career also included a stint on Sweden's burgeoning stand-up comedy circuit between 1994 and 1999. He collaborated with other talented humorists to form various constantly evolving comedy constellations, which made a significant impact on cult channel ZTV and larger networks such as SVT and TV4. During this period, he also managed several comedy venues and developed a reputation for consistently producing fresh material through his involvement with improvisational theatre and slam poetry.
In 2006, Bergsten was appointed lecturer on the Creative Writing Program at Stockholm's Fryshuset College, a position he quickly rose to as Artistic Director within a year. Coinciding with this appointment was Bergsten's emergence as an actor, director, and writer in short films, commercials, and most recently, web-based comedy.
