Ute Lemper has left an indelible mark on the stage, in films, in concert, and as a unique recording artist, boasting an impressive career spanning over three decades and more than 30 albums.
Universally praised for her interpretations of Berlin Cabaret Songs, the works of Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht, and the chansons of Marlene Dietrich, Édith Piaf, and many others, she has become a world-famous musical star.
Notable performances include Sally Bowles in Paris, Lola Lola in The Blue Angel, and Velma Kelly on Broadway and in London's West End.
Starting her career playing "Cats" in Vienna, she then went on to star as "Peter Pan" in Berlin before acting in plays by Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Jérôme Savary in Stuttgart.
She has won numerous prestigious awards, including the Molière Award in Paris, the Laurence Olivier Award in London, and the Theatre World Award in the US.
Fluent in German, French, and English, Miss Lemper has toured the world with her one-woman shows, including "The Bukowski Project", "The 9 Secrets", and "Rendezvous with Marlene".
Her Grammy-nominated album "Paris Days/Berlin Nights" was an overwhelming success in 2012, and Maurice Béjart created a ballet especially for her.
Born in Münster, Germany, Miss Lemper studied at the Max Reinhardt Seminary Drama School in Vienna and completed her dance studies in Cologne.
She rose to stardom in a television series, Das Erbe der Guldenburgs, before making her film debut in L'Autrichienne, followed by roles in Not Mozart: Letters, Riddles and Writs, Prospero's Books, Jean Galmot, aventurier, and Ready to Wear.
Miss Lemper has also starred alongside Daniel Craig in Smoke Wrings and with Whoopi Goldberg and Gérard Depardieu in Bogus, directed by Norman Jewison.
In Germany, she provided the singing voices of Ariel in The Little Mermaid and Esmeralda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Currently, Miss Lemper is a full-time musician, songwriter, and stage personality, having married Todd Turkisher in 2011 and becoming a devoted mother of four.
