Vella can be seen on season three of the critically acclaimed series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, where her character Heather has been the fan favorite and standout comic relief alongside Golden Globe Winner Rachel Bloom for two seasons. As Heather, the underachieving roommate of Rebecca, she has made a surprising transformation in season three, taking big steps in both her professional and personal life. This marks a significant change from her character's previous lack of ambition, and showcases Vella's ability to portray growth and development.
In addition to her work on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Vella was recently seen in the smash hit film THE BIG SICK, where she played Khadija, a smart, funny, and grounded character who calls out Kumail's behavior. She will also appear in the independent film ALL THESE SMALL MOMENTS, set for release in early 2018, alongside Molly Ringwald, Brian d'Arcy James, and Jemima Kirke.
When not filming, Vella can be seen in the web series FRIEND THERAPY, which she co-wrote and stars in alongside her best friend Clea Alsip. The series follows two best friends as they work through their political differences after the 2016 election in a series of hilarious, awkward, and potentially disastrous therapy sessions. FRIEND THERAPY is currently available on Chuckler.
Vella is also part of an all-female sketch group called "Razor Burn," which releases video sketches. A graduate of the Juilliard School, she holds a bachelor's degree from New York University. During her time at Juilliard, she played Anna Mae in Pulitzer Prize Winner Lynn Nottages' "By The Way, Meet Vera Stark," and Lady Macbeth in an adaptation of "Macbeth." Her other notable performances include "The Bacchae" directed by JoAnne Akalaitis at Shakespeare in the Park, "The Great Recession" and "Kaspar Hauser" at The Flea Theater, and "A Streetcar Named Desire" directed by David Cromer, "When You're Here" by Samuel Hunter, and "Camp Monster," a new children's musical, at Williamstown Theatre Festival. Her past television credits include Girls and CollegeHumor Originals.
