Vinay Varma, the founder of Sutradhar, embarked on his journey as an amateur theatre practitioner, a passion that has spanned over four decades. He has had the privilege of being involved in more than 40 feature films, including one Hollywood production, in addition to his extensive work in Hindi and Telugu cinema.
Varma's foray into theatre began with the play "Coffee House Mein Intezar" penned by Dr. Laxminarayan Lal. He made the bold decision to leave his banking career to pursue his dream of becoming an actor.
Throughout his illustrious career, Varma has directed over 45 plays and acted in more than 50 productions, with an impressive tally of over 200 shows across India and abroad. Some of his notable performances include "Natasamrat", "Raktbeej", "Main Rahi Masoom", "Siyaah Haashiye", "Stronger Than Superman", "Main Nathuram Godse", "Death Watch", "Kanjoos Makkhi Choose", and "Oleanna" by David Mamet.
One of his most notable plays, "Main Rahi Masoom", is a biographical production based on the life of renowned writer Dr. Rahi Masoom Raza. The play has been performed in various cities across India, including Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Kolhapur, New Delhi, Allahabad, and Chandigarh, as well as in Chennai, Ahmedabad, Indore, and Bengaluru. Moreover, it was also staged at the prestigious Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in Mumbai, the 3rd Minerva National Theatre Festival in Kolkata, the Pratyay Theatre Festival in Kolhapur, the 12th Bharath Rang Mahotsav in New Delhi, the 22nd National Drama Festival in Allahabad, and the 8th World Theatre Olympics in Chandigarh.
In addition, Varma's play "Main Rahi Masoom" was invited to be performed at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune and was also showcased at the Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad. The play celebrated its 50th show on March 2, 2018, at the Ravindra Bharathi, marking a significant milestone in Varma's illustrious career.
