Vincent "VJ" Foster was born in San Francisco and spent his formative years in San Carlos, California, where he developed a passion for motocross and became a devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers and Giants.
Later, VJ moved to Los Angeles to attend the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA),where he met fellow undergraduate Tim Robbins and began a long-term collaboration with the renowned actor and director.
As a founding member and former Associate Artistic Director of The Actors' Gang, a Los Angeles-based theater ensemble, VJ has been involved in numerous productions, including the long-running show "Embedded" at the Public Theater in New York City.
He has also performed in a global tour production of a world premiere adaptation of George Orwell's 1984 and has been a cast member in several productions with the Actors' Gang.
As a Teaching Artist with the Actors' Gang, VJ is a member of the renowned Actors' Gang Prison Project, which has been working with adult inmates in over a dozen California State Prisons for 15 years.
In addition, VJ teaches with the Actors' Gang Education Department, bringing team-building skills and creative outlets in theater and imaginative storytelling to K-12 students in the Los Angeles area.
He has also been a visiting lecturer at the UCLA School of Theater, Film & Television, his alma mater.
VJ's travels with the Actors' Gang have taken him to stages throughout the United States and internationally, including stops in London, Hong Kong, Buenos Aires, Madrid, Edinburgh, Athens, Melbourne, and Barcelona.
In addition to his work with the Actors' Gang, VJ has collaborated with Oscar-winning directors such as Steven Spielberg, Sam Mendes, Michael Mann, Warren Beatty, and Clint Eastwood, and has appeared in several Best Picture-nominated films, including the Best Picture winner, Million Dollar Baby.
He has also made numerous guest star appearances in popular television series, including American Horror Story, Cold Case, NCIS, Burn Notice, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Criminal Minds.
VJ recurred as the character Smitty on the long-running series, The Shield.
In his personal life, VJ is married to Lindsley Allen, a dancer, choreographer, and former co-creator of The Pussycat Dolls and the creator/director of Cherry Boom Boom, a Los Angeles and Las Vegas sensation.
