Wi Ding Ho, a Malaysian filmmaker, attended the prestigious New York University's Tisch School of the Arts film school. Currently residing in Taipei, he has made a name for himself in the film industry with his unique storytelling and direction.
Wi Ding's feature film debut, Pinoy Sunday, received widespread acclaim and won several awards, including the Best New Director Award at the Golden Horse Awards. The film also won the Best Feature Film award at the Comedy Cluj Film Festival in Romania.
His latest feature, Beautiful Accident, is a co-production between Taiwan, China, and Korea, and is set to be released theatrically this summer. The tragic-comedy film promises to be an exciting addition to Wi Ding's filmography.
Wi Ding's short films have also received critical acclaim. Summer Afternoon premiered at the Directors' Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival, while Respire won the Kodak Discovery Award and the TV5 Young Critics Award at the International Critics' Week. The short film also won the Best Fantasy Short Film Award at the Sitges International Fantasy Film Festival and a Special Jury Award at the Taipei International Film Festival.
In 2011, Wi Ding directed two commissioned short films. 100 was a segment of the joint film project 10+10, which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival. The other short, I wake up in a strange bed, was part of the four shorts compilation When Yesterday Comes, which won the Special Mention of the International Jury Award at the Internationales FilmFestival Manheim-Heidelberg. Wi Ding's short also won the Best Short Film Award at the Taipei International Film Festival.
Wi Ding's English-language debut, Our Sister Mambo, was a remake of the 1957 Hong Kong film "Our Sister Hedy." The film was theatrically released in Singapore and Malaysia and will be screened at the prestigious Hong Kong Film Archive.
In 2014, Wi Ding directed a TV movie for China's CCTV, "The Biggest Toad in the Puddle," which gained rave reviews and attention from festivals. The film premiered at the Shanghai International Film Festival and has since screened at the Beijing International Film Festival and the Singapore Chinese Film Festival. It was also nominated for the Taipei Film Award at the 2015 Taipei International Film Festival.
