Wolfgang Held, an accomplished cinematographer, has been embarking on a global journey, traversing the realms of documentary and fiction filmmaking since the 1990s. Throughout his illustrious career, he has had the privilege of capturing the essence of more than 100 films, including the widely popular Brüno, starring the talented Sacha Baron Cohen.
His extensive repertoire also includes the critically acclaimed Netflix series The Warhol Diaries, which garnered a nomination for an Emmy in Cinematography, as well as the Oscar-winning fiction short The Neighbor's Window. Held's impressive portfolio also features the HBO movie O.G., starring the esteemed Jeffrey Wright, which was shot in the unique setting of an active maximum-security prison.
The film's innovative approach blended the talents of both inmates and actors as part of its cast and crew. Furthermore, his documentary, This Stolen Country of Mine, filmed in the majestic mountains of Ecuador, has been nominated by his peers at the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) for best documentary cinematography in 2023.
As a founding member of the Kamerakollektiv, a collective of New York-based cameramen and women who share a passion for cinematic, socially-conscious filmmaking, Held is deeply committed to his craft. He is also a member of the ASC, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS),International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE)/600, British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA),and the Television Academy.
Held's educational background includes a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Film, and he takes great pride in owning his own camera and lighting equipment. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and exploring new horizons.
