Person Biography:
Yahoo Serious, born Greg Gomez Pead on July 27, 1953, in New South Wales, Australia, grew up near Newcastle and worked as a tire fitter before pursuing his artistic talents. He legally changed his name to Yahoo Serious in 1980.
Yahoo began his career by writing, producing, directing, and filming the documentary "Coaltown" in 1977, which won the National Award for Best Australian Education Documentary. He then started to combine his artistic talents with absurdist comedy, earning skeptical looks along the way.
At 21, Yahoo wrote, produced, directed, and filmed "Lifestyle," a TV series that gained him recognition. He traveled throughout Asia, Europe, and America, and began to write, direct, and perform in experimental comedy.
His first major motion picture, "Young Einstein" (1988),became a huge success, grossing over $100 million and making him an international sensation. The film's unique blend of satire, silliness, and slapstick, combined with its eye-popping visuals, captivated young audiences.
Yahoo involved himself in every aspect of the making of the movie, from creating the original concept and script to incorporating the visual design and music soundtrack, and performing all of his own stunts.
After "Young Einstein," Yahoo struggled to produce a follow-up movie and quickly became yesterday's news. His next film, "Reckless Kelly" (1993),was a commercial failure and failed to match the success of "Young Einstein." He then worked on "Mr. Accident" (2000),which centered around the world's most accident-prone man, but it also failed to achieve commercial success.
Yahoo received an honorary doctorate from the University of Newcastle in 1996 and was a guest at the opening of the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He is currently a board member of the Kokoda Track Foundation, a humanitarian aid organization focused on the indigenous people of Papua New Guinea.
