Madmoni was born and raised in a deeply religious family in the vibrant city of Jerusalem, surrounded by the rich cultural heritage of the Jewish community. His father, Baruch, was the son of Rabbi Yosef Madmoni, the respected rabbi of the Jewish community of Silwan, also known as the village of Shiloah, until its forced deportation in 1939. Furthermore, Rabbi Yosef Madmoni was the grandson of Rabbi Sa'Aida Madmoni, the influential leader of the second wave in the rise of A'la in Tamar, dating back to 1882.
After completing his military service, Madmoni pursued his education at the renowned Sam Spiegel School, where he collaborated with his classmate, David Ofek, following their studies. This marked the beginning of a creative partnership that would span many years.
Madmoni's film-making style is characterized by his preoccupation with religious content and his fascination with the charged encounter between traditional values and modernity. His plots often explore the world of non-hegemonic groups in Israel, offering a unique perspective on the complexities of Israeli society.
In addition to his focus on content, Madmoni's work in film and television also emphasizes the importance of storytelling techniques, such as the episodic narrative, breaking the linear structure, and incorporating patterns from the Jewish world, including Midrash, Hassidic stories, biblical stories, sermons, and more.
Throughout his career, Madmoni has received numerous awards and accolades for his outstanding contributions to the world of Israeli cinema. In 2005, he was honored with the Art of Cinema award from the Ministry of Education and Culture. Additionally, in 2015, he won the prestigious Gesher-Avichai Fellowship for Jewish cinematic production.
Madmoni has also been actively involved in the Israeli film industry, serving as chairman of the Screenwriters Association from 2000 to 2004 and as a member of the management board until 2011. From 2013 to 2014, he served as a director at the royalties company for film and television creators, Dolly.
Madmoni is married to the talented actress, Ruthie Bornstein, and has built a life filled with creativity, passion, and dedication to his craft.
