Zoe Bell is a renowned stunt double and actress, renowned for her unwavering dedication, exceptional skills, and laser-like focus. Born on Waiheke Island, New Zealand, to Tish, a compassionate nurse, and Andrew Bell, a distinguished doctor, she has a rich background in gymnastics and martial arts.
Zoe began her career as a stunt woman, doubling Lucy Lawless on the cult favorite TV series Xena: Warrior Princess, which premiered in 1995. She also appeared as a double in the ABC thriller Alias, in 2001, and on an episode of Cleopatra 2525 in 2000, doubling Vicki Pratti.
In the action-packed documentary Double Dare, released in 2004, Zoe, alongside legendary stunt-woman Jeannie Epper, provides a captivating insight into the career of women who take falls and punches for a living. The documentary also sheds light on the struggles of stunt-women to maintain a healthy lifestyle, secure employment, and stay sane in a male-dominated industry.
Following the cancellation of Xena, Zoe's next notable project was working with the acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino on Kill Bill: Vol. 1, released in 2003, and Kill Bill: Vol. 2, released in 2004. Zoe played the stunt double for Uma Thurman's iconic role, The Bride, and received a nomination for her work in Kill Bill, Vol. 1, in the categories of Best Stunt by a Stunt Woman and Best Fight for the Taurus World Stunt Awards.
Zoe was injured during the final days of filming, requiring surgery, but has since made a full recovery and returned to work. She appeared alongside Jeannie Epper in Amanda Micheli's acclaimed documentary Double Dare, which offers a glimpse into the lives and careers of both women, as well as their enduring friendship.
Zoe debuted her acting career, showcasing her already renowned stunt skills, in the double feature Grindhouse, written by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. She was hand-picked by Tarantino himself to star in his segment of the double feature, Death Proof, a suspenseful thriller about four women working in the film industry who are stalked by a murderer in his Death Proof car.
