In 1973, Uruguay was ruled by a military dictatorship, and one autumn evening, three Tupamaro prisoners were secretly taken from their cells in a swift operation. The objective was to drive them to the brink of madness, rather than eliminate them. The prisoners, including future President Pepe Mujica, were then confined to solitary cells for 12 long years.
