Ed Bannon, a seasoned scout, narrowly escapes an Apache ambush while working with the cavalry at Fort Clark, Texas. Despite his efforts, the US Army fires him, perceiving his actions as counter to their new policies to negotiate peace with the Apaches and relocate them to Florida. Bannon becomes increasingly suspicious of Torinada, the Apache chief's son, who has returned from an Eastern education, due to their troubled past. Bannon continues to monitor the situation, causing tension between the US Army and the Apache warrior.
