A man, Steven Brewster, flees a small town in Montana after being tricked into a gunfight and killing his opponent. He joins a gang of outlaws and participates in robberies, but is eventually wounded and captured. His friends rescue him and he becomes the sheriff of Helena. When his old gang returns to attack the town, he defeats them and marries the daughter of the gang's leader, persuading her to leave her old life behind.
