Dean Hess, a former minister who feels guilty for bombing a German orphanage, is struggling to find purpose in his life. When he's reassigned to train pilots during the Korean War, he discovers a group of orphaned children rummaging through the base's trash. Moved by their plight, he teams up with a kind-hearted Korean teacher to establish an orphanage for the children. However, as he works to protect his new family, he's forced to confront the harsh reality of taking lives to ensure their safety.
