Bobby Bowfinger, a 49-year-old owner of a struggling Hollywood production company, has a scheme to make a movie with a $2,184 budget. He convinces his accountant to write a science-fiction script, and then tries to get big action star Kit Ramsey to star in the film. When Kit refuses, Bobby decides to film Kit without his knowledge, using a cinematographer with access to studio equipment and knowledge of Kit's daily movements. The plan involves using Kit's paranoia about aliens to get his reactions to the script. However, things get complicated when another actor tries to make contact with Kit, and Bobby is forced to hire a production assistant who also serves as a stunt double and acting double for Kit. The movie's success hinges on getting Kit to scream the final line, "gotcha suckas," and Bobby believes he'll know he's made it in Hollywood if he receives a specific sign from the heavens in the form of a FedEx package.
