In a futuristic society, pleasure is prioritized and love is forbidden, while casual sex is encouraged through the use of a mind-altering drug. People are mass-produced on conveyor belts, categorized into five social classes, with Alphas ruling supreme. Bernard Marx, an Alpha with a rebellious streak, befriends Lenina and they visit a "savage" reservation, where they meet John, a handsome and educated young man. John's exposure to civilization sparks a scandal, and he becomes a celebrity, but his love for Lenina is thwarted by his outdated moral values. He eventually seeks isolation as a lighthouse guard, but his celebrity status and longing for Lenina continue to haunt him.
