German sergeant Rolf Steiner is sent on leave to Paris after striking an officer on the Russian Front in 1944. He reunites with his unit, now stationed in Paris, where he discovers his former commander, Major Von Stransky, is now in charge. Steiner and Von Stransky have a troubled past, and their animosity towards each other grows. Meanwhile, General Hofmann, a key player in a conspiracy to kill Hitler, enlists Steiner's help to negotiate a potential surrender to the Americans if Hitler is eliminated. However, when the plot to kill Hitler fails, the surrender plan is put in jeopardy.
