The construction of the East African railway is halted due to a lion that is terrorizing the workers. Bob Hayward, the chief engineer, is tasked with killing the lion, but he's not happy in his job and has been away from his home and wife for 8 months, leading to drinking and carousing. Despite seeking help from the local Masai tribesmen and hunters, the lion remains elusive, killing workers one by one.
