A group of outlaws, known as "The Champagne Bandits," have been stealing gold and silver shipments in Nevada, but instead of keeping the loot, they throw a fried chicken picnic for the passengers and treat them to champagne. To stop the gang, a banker decides to build a railroad to transport the ore, but it will require an exceptional engineer familiar with the challenging terrain. He finds the perfect candidate in Jeff Kincaid, a rugged adventurer with experience in difficult jobs and a local connection. However, their partnership is complicated by a romantic rivalry for the affections of Susan Mitchell, the daughter of the local newspaper's publisher.
