In 1890s Montmartre, Henri Danglard, the owner of a struggling cafe, becomes enamored with the idea of reviving the cancan dance and meets Nini, a talented laundress with a natural flair for dance. As he seeks to make her the star of his new show, a complex web of jealousies ensues.
