At the opening of Funland, employees are busy with rituals as the park prepares for a new season. However, the owner's refusal to sell the land to a shady development company, Maurio DeMauro's company, leads to his sudden death. The company buys out his shares and starts cutting costs, replacing family-friendly rides with more profitable ones. The park's accountant, Neil Stickney, who also founded the park, is replaced by a new clown mascot, Chad Peller, leading the original mascot, Bruce Burger, to lose his grip on reality.
