Teenager Sarah Quinn lives with her family in Wardenclyffe, New York, and is trying to get into Columbia University by writing an essay about fear. Her brother Sonny and his friend Sam start a garbage cleanup business, but things take a turn when they find a mysterious manuscript in an abandoned house. Unbeknownst to them, the manuscript brings a mischievous dummy named Slappy to life.
