Three bank robbers flee into the desert after killing a cashier, but their horses are lost in a sandstorm. They find a woman in labor and become her godfathers, only to discover the baby's father was the man they murdered. After the woman dies, the trio embarks on a perilous 40-mile journey back to New Jerusalem on foot, with limited water supplies.
