Popeye rescues Olive from an aviator, Bluto, who is forcing her to paint his plane's tail fin while in flight. Popeye intervenes, and the two engage in a dogfight, with Bluto destroying Popeye's plane. Popeye grabs a duck, feeds it spinach, and uses the duck to fly up to Bluto's plane, where he confronts and defeats Bluto.

Popeye, a heartbroken and solitary figure, sits outside a deserted airport cafeteria, left behind by Olive who has flown off with her former lover, Bluto, a skilled aviator.
