On Amity Island, a small community reliant on its beaches, a new sheriff, Martin Brody, finds a shark attack victim and initially wants to close the beaches. However, he is pressured by the mayor and local business owners to keep the beaches open. A young boy is killed by the shark, prompting a bounty and a swarm of amateur hunters. A seasoned fisherman, Quint, offers to hunt the Great White shark for a fee, and Brody, Quint, and Matt Hooper from the Oceanographic Institute embark on a perilous hunt at sea.
