Private detective Michael Shayne is serving on a jury for the murder trial of Lillian Hubbard. A crucial witness is killed, and Shayne hides the murder weapon. He then works with a reporter to track down the killer, a professional knife-thrower, who is later found murdered himself. The investigation leads to a nightclub singer and her employer, who were both romantically involved with the murder victim.
