In a secluded old house, a student named Jane assists an animal researcher named Phillip, who lives with a troop of chimpanzees and a remarkable 45-year-old orangutan named Link. Despite Link's intelligence, Phillip intends to put him down. But before he can do so, Link mysteriously vanishes one morning, leaving behind only questions. As the days pass, Link's behavior becomes increasingly aggressive, restricting Jane's access to the phone and the nearby village. When Jane tries to discipline him by locking him out, he responds with violent outbursts.
