Elling, who lives in an apartment, has become increasingly isolated after his roommate Kjell Bjarne moved to a new home with his girlfriend and daughter. Elling feels like an outsider and struggles to adjust to his new life. However, with Kjell Bjarne's help, Elling undergoes a transformation, becoming clean, well-rested, and well-dressed. He then meets a woman who fills the void in his life, but things don't go as planned when he is invited to her home for dinner.
