Syed Abdul Rahim, the coach of the Indian football team, is determined to turn the team around after their disappointing performance in the 1952 Olympics. He believes that the team's management is to blame for their defeat and is determined to make changes to achieve success in the 1956 Olympics. Despite facing resistance from media tycoon Mr. Roy and the football committee, who favor players from Bengal, Rahim selects a talented team from across the country and leads them to a historic fourth-place finish at the 1956 Olympics, a record that stands to this day. However, his success is short-lived as the team is eliminated in the first round of the 1960 Olympics and Rahim is subsequently sacked.
