In the late 1980s and 1990s, the New York club scene was rocked by the rise and fall of Michael Alig, a charismatic party promoter known for his extravagant lifestyle and outrageous behavior. Alig's addiction to drugs fueled his creative and destructive impulses, leading to a tragic descent into madness. Despite his success, including a record label and magazine, Alig's life spiraled out of control when he murdered his friend and drug dealer, Angel Melendez, by injecting him with Drano and throwing his body into the East River.
