Patti Petalson, a 33-year-old real estate agent, is dissatisfied with her life. She's passionate about literature, but hasn't written anything in ten years. Her husband, Chazz, is self-absorbed and doesn't listen to her. Patti reunites with her ex-boyfriend Brian, a successful writer of pulp fiction, and her friend Kate, who's still upset with Brian's ex-friend Murph, a successful lawyer. Patti and Brian have an unspoken attraction, but their lives are unsatisfying. Brian's struggling to write serious literature and is dating someone from a different generation.
