As World War II comes to a close, Larry discovers that his flying companion Mike is terminally ill, despite medical efforts to save him. To ensure Mike's final days are filled with joy, Larry takes on a lucrative flying job for the wealthy Maris. Before departing, he forces Maris' secretary, Susan, onto the plane. As Mike develops feelings for Susan, Larry instructs her to pretend to reciprocate his affections for Mike's sake. Unbeknownst to Larry, Susan begins to fall for him instead.
